FAQ

What is HCMI?

Hope Chapel Ministry Institute is a training program offering classes in relevant biblical doctrine and relevant Christian issues. It functions as a Bible school for lay people and is especially geared for those who have limited time or who do not have extensive theological or academic background.

Our Goal at HCMI is to provide a well organized, meaningful training experience for anyone who would like to develop their ability to minister effectively and grow further in their knowledge of the bible.

HCMI also sponsors special seminars, workshops and guest speakers.

How much will it cost?

Tuition for HCMI’s core courses are $50 per person per course or $75 per married couple. If you are a Hope Chapel member and need financial aid please see your District Pastor for a Scholarship Application and approval. Elective courses are free or have a fee of $20 or more.

Course fees are used to pay instructors, to secure guest speakers and to pay for printed materials and student workbooks distributed in the classes. All student fees ultimately go back into the program.

Will I have to do homework and take tests?

Some courses have homework, final projects and tests. Don’t worry, we won’t “grade” you or put you in competition with others. Instead, the work is designed so that if you just complete the assignments you’ll learn. The homework will help you interact with the material in a meaningful way.

The course assignments and tests are geared for the eager student no matter what their age or background. Here’s a chance to roll up your sleeves and participate in the adventure of discovery in the Word.

Can I get credit?

Yes, you can, although our “credit” is only recognized here at Hope Chapel. We are not an accredited school in a formal sense at this time.

We give credit for two reasons. First, we want you to have the satisfaction of knowing you’ve successfully completed the course work. It’s our way of saying “congratulations”! Second, it helps us at Hope Chapel to train those who are moving into positions of responsibility in ministry here.

Who are the Instructors?

Instructors are chosen from Hope Chapel staff members, MiniChurch Shepherds, Elders and lay leaders who are qualified to teach their particular class and are active in the community life of the church. Occasionally instructors are guests from other churches or Christian schools in the area.

Certificate of Biblical Studies

We designed HCMI so you can choose among courses for your personal growth. You don’t need to be “enrolled" in any specialized program of study. However, we have designated seven classes as core courses because they teach concepts that are fundamental to effective Christian ministry. Each core course is offered at least once a year.

Any student completing all seven core courses will be awarded the Certificate of Biblical Studies from Hope Chapel Ministry Institute.

HCMI also offers a wide range of elective classes. Though some have been offered only once, many of the elective classes are repeated.

When are classes offered?

The classes that make up our Certificate of Biblical Studies are usually offered Sundays 6:00-8:00 pm and Tuesdays 7:00-9:00 pm. They are two hours in length with a short break for coffee and fellowship. As space and time becomes available our classes will be offered other nights of the week.

Our Elective classes are usually scheduled on Sunday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings and vary in length.
